I drew this rather quickly and it took much longer to color than it should have. I wanted a simple drawing of Owen as a reference for his helmet. I wanted to show how the hoses attach to the back. In my other drawings I've cheated and only drew them without detail. But he has two attachements on his clear metal helmet that are next to each other directly in the lower back. His hoses are clear as well and attach the way they do in a lab. He needed something that would come off easily in case his air supply was suddenly cut short. His fire can also breath for a while without them being attached to his tanks.
The circle on his side is an adjustment point. He has two, one on each temple, where he can losen or tighten his helmet. It won't come off unless he presses that. This keeps him from losing it if he's in a fight and putting his fire in danger.
For a simple drawing I'm really happy with how this turned out. My favorite thing is how nice the attachments turned out. They really look see through and like glass. Of course his helmet isn't glass but clear metal. Clear metal is a substance he invented that can withstand his intense heat and protect him. His sword is also made of clear metal. I really wanted to color this and create a sense of a dimensional glass dome. I think I did fairly well for my first attempt at getting this right. I gave the hoses a lot of shine. There's nothing in them, just air. The shine is reflection on the outside to show they are clear. His tanks for some reason came out very realistic. I wasn't trying to make them fancy since the focus is his helmet but I'm very pleased they did turn out so nice.
Another thing that I like about this is his expression. He's calm. As calm as Owen can get anyway. But you can still see his hate and rage though it's contained. This drawing is all about containment. His emotions are contained at the moment since he can't do anything about his situation. They are contained just like the fire under his helmet. That fire that he hates so much but can't live with out. It really pains and tortures him. I love that about him.
